I find it interesting that most of the coding style notes that I read nowadays stress that fewer comments are typically better. (If variable and function/method names make sense, then you shouldn't have to tell the reader what it's holding or doing.)

I seem to remember a certain CS professor (let's just say his name rhymed with... um... Damn. I can't think of anything that rhymes with Olawsky) that used to dock my code's grade because I didn't comment. I still maintain that if you can read the damn thing, why do I need to tell you what it's doing.

For poor suckers like me who don't have the time (or the knowledge) to decipher an entire file/function/method/whatever, but occasionally need to pick things out of a piece of code or see what's changed.
