Halloween 2008- Captain Hammer
Came home from work early since I feel lousy. Picked up some orange juice and lunch on the way home, now it's time for a nap.

(Comments contain Monk spoilers.)

You watch Monk?

I've been a bit disappointed by the last two episodes though.

Me too. I'm on the brink of deleting my season pass.

What didn't you like about the last two? (Or were there more than that for you?)

I found the GPS/Baseball episode a bit too obvious. It seemed like it took Monk way too long to figure things out.

The last episode bothered me because it was structured so much like the teacher episode. Monk knows who did it but he can't prove it and he's really frustrated until a witness attempts to blackmail the killer and is killed giving Monk a chance to capture the killer. I also thought the whole "Suck it up" thing seemed out of character for him.

The circus one wasn't as bad as others. A lot of the extra dialog was clearly designed to explain things to newer viewers, which I can ignore. The second murder, in my mind, didn't give Monk any new insight into the case. All the evidence he needed was in the X-ray. I figured out how the murderer did it fairly early, but that's also no big deal.

My problem is that the plots are increasingly lame, the explanations don't always match the evidence (I am having trouble remembering specifics, sorry), and Monk's OCD is portrayed inconsistently and mostly for laughs. At first, the OCD was an obstacle to overcome, now it's like the script writers are obligated to take several minutes out of each episode to laugh at it. Considering that Monk is brought in to solve cases with clever perps, some of the perps are just plain stupid (i.e. going back to the clock tower at his wife's school).

The production is also just sloppy at times. In the GPS episode, it was said numerous times that four shots were fired. When they showed the footage of the murder at the end while Monk was narrating, we clearly saw BANG, BANG… BANG, BANG… BANG. C'mon people, that's dumb.

Then again, the first CSI I saw set up the mystery with a clear, uncontested fact that was totally dropped halfway through and ignored in the "solution." Needless to say, the fact made the "solution" impossible.

I guess my biggest problem is that it's getting cartoonish. The characters are getting less complex and interesting with each passing episode.
