Halloween 2008- Captain Hammer
Apple released iCal today. I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't release iSync yet, I'm much more interested in it than iCal. I don't really use the calendar portion of Palm Desktop currently so iCal doesn't seem that exciting. The sharing aspect does make it a bit more interesting though. Apple has library of calendars you can synch with so you can have sports schedules or dvd release dates or holidays automatically displayed on your own iCal.

I may find it useful since I can subscribe to the Duke Basketball schedule and know when it's safe to call home.

you don't use the calendar? what *do* you use on it? I think that's what I use most!

I primarily use it for phone numbers addresses and birthdays. I also keep track of online usernames and passwords for sites using WebConfidential, and I keep lots of reading material using iSilo and Avantgo. I use several database packages for tracking workouts and other stuff. I use TealInfo for various reference files.

Aside from birthdays, I just don't tend to need the calendar stuff very often. I guess that says something about how busy I am most of the time.

I don't much use the calendar on my Palm or desktop, either.

Of iCal, though, I was happy to see that it's sharing is not tied exclusively to .Mac (can be used with WebDAV).

you're not mac-based, are you?

(all those things are good to know how to do.) most of my exceptionally clever handheld plans have gone nowhere since my garage-sale special doesn't want to synch with my rather newer computer. fooey.

Me or Omaha?

I'm definitely Mac based. I have a G4 Cube and an iBook at home (plus a relatively new iPod) and I spend most of my time at work using a blue and white G3 (although I also have a PC on my desk which I need to upload my scripts and use Enterprise Manager.)

I could probably offer you a good deal on a used Visor Deluxe if you were interested.

While I use a coupla 7500s at home (one with a G3, the other with a PC Compatability card) and use a mactell at work.

truly, you and I should talk.

I've got a Palm V and a USB hotsynching cable ('cause the cradle that came with the pda didn't work) but the mac version of the driver for the cable sucks. It is only OS9.* compatible, and messes even with that. the tech support is practically non-existent. Why are you selling the Visor?

I think I remember you mentioning that before. Isn't it some weird third party USB cable?

The Visor Deluxe should work fine with OS 9 or OS X (Handspring doesn't support the OS X desktop software, but it works just fine if you remove the "PalmOS Updates" directory). It has a USB cradle so you don't need any weird adapters to connect it to a recent machine. The main differences between the Visor Deluxe and the Palm V are size (Visor is bigger), memory (Visor has 8MB, Palm V has 2MB), power (Visor uses batteries, Palm V is rechargeable) and expandability (Visor has a Springboard expansion slot).
My Visor Deluxe is currently just sitting there unused since I replaced it with a Handspring Visor Neo earlier this year. The Neo is slightly better (newer OS, faster processor) but it was mostly just a case of wanting something new and getting a good deal.

hmmmmm. hmmm.

hm.

what would you want for it, do you think?

theoretically, I can connect the palm to my nokia phone, but in practice that ain't gonna happen because I can't #%(* download the softward to the pda! damn that cradle. Yes, the hotsynch cable is 3rd party.

I suppose I could put the rig I have up for auction somewhere. more likely I'd see if anyone around here wanted it first.

I'll send you an email message about the Visor. That might be a more efficient way of discussing it.

I've just had the Visor sitting around thinking "I should try selling this on eBay or something" but I never get around to it.
