Halloween 2008- Captain Hammer
Much busier than a usual weekend.

monstersocks and I went over to jimbexleyspeed's place for grilling and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly extended edition. The added scenes didn't really seem necessary but the movie was still very good. We would have shown up for the festivities earlier but it took several stops to find some Almond Syrup (Orgeat) for our host's Mai Tais. None of the liquor stores we tried had even heard of it but we finally found Almond Syrup at Byerly's. If only we'd had time to look online.

On Saturday monstersocks and I got together and did a little baking for some of the events later in the weekend and watched some Colonial House. We made some M&M peanut butter cookies with Ogre-sized M&Ms. The cookies were (in my opinion) very good.

On Sunday we had a standard family dinner with monstersocks' family at OCB then stopped by her brother-in-law's Soft Drink Party and tried some interesting drinks (including pineapple and coconut soft drinks which mixed into a nice piña colada). After that we headed over to ladyslaughter's cook-out (I hope I remembered the right alias there). That was pretty fun and the cookies seemed well received.

On Monday we went to our friend Brian's cookout. That was fun (if a little damp).

I also picked up a wireless controller for my PS2 and a wireless controller for my xbox. Fewer wires = less clutter.

I love my iPod but I really wish it had more capacity. I'm constantly having to deleted songs whenever I wanted to add new music. Happily 60GB iPods may be coming soon. (A black one would be even better.)

Was Firefly only one season long?

Yep, just the one season (all of which is in the DVD boxed set). It's actually more like half a season (sadly).

The movie Serenity starts shooting pretty soon for release next year.

Ooooh, neat. (About the movie: the cast is the same! I'm big on that stuff.)

One of my coworkers suggested Firefly to me and she loaned me the first disc, which Ninevah and I promptly gorged ourselves on last night. It's a cool show with a really neat concept. I have no idea (well, I do, and that's because society sucks) why it didn't catch on.

And as much as I am not a fan of Buffy, I can appreciate Joss Whedon's talent as a whole, though. (My mom made me watch some Buffy with her sometimes. I think she woulda liked Firefly.)

It didn't really help that Fox showed the episodes out of order when they were initially broadcast. The Train Job was shown first and the two hour pilot was shown last. It helps to explain why there's so much explanation in The Train Job but it would have been really nice to see the pilot first.

It took me a little while to warm up to the show, partially because I was surprised by the plot. All I knew before watching it was that it was a space show without aliens, I hadn't heard about the western influence.

The showing out of order would make it hard to grasp, I can definitely see that.
It was that way when Nin and I started watching Lexx, until I realized that I didn't really miss anything except the first four movies that SciFi didn't ever show. So, the jumble didn't bug me that much.
BUT, having experienced the weirdness of Lexx, the concept of Firefly wasn't so hard for me to grasp. I am an unusual case, and, fortunately, I got to see them in order, too.

I hope the series gets taken back up after the movie (which looks to be season one mashed onto the big screen). And the doctor reminds me of a Joaquin Pheonix/Crispin Glover cross. It's eery and excellent at the same time.

I've heard they're going to try to make the movie accessible for people who haven't seen the series but they'll also try to answer some of the questions left by the series (which I won't say much about since you've still got plenty to watch).

I've watched part of a couple episodes of Lexx but never really got into it.

Lexx is hard unless you're able to see the first four movies (technically season one). There are so many 'in jokes' and whatnot in the successive seasons that I can see where it's easy to get lost.

I am also very aware that Lexx is not to everyone's taste.

It's very cool about Serenity, though. Very.
