Halloween 2008- Captain Hammer
"Cooler Than Monkeys!"

Triops or Aquasaurs. (from boing boing)

Kind of like Sea Monkeys, but they grow to 1" or 2" long in a few weeks.

Whoa. That is very cool. I'm going to order some and keep them at work. I wonder how long they're expected to live? I wonder if they'll creep me out...

I thought you might like those. (I thought of the tales of your Sea Monkeys™ when I saw the link.)

The question is, simpler Triops or fancy Aquasaurs?

Are they actually different? I thought the kits looked the same... are they made by different companies?

I believe so.

The Triops kit is a bit more bare bones, "a plastic bucket, 5 1/2" tall x 6 1/2" dia", while the Aquasaurs kit is a bit more like Sea Monkeys™ with plastic volcanoes and rocks.

The Triops kit costs about $8 (plus shipping) and the Aquasaurs cost about $20 from amazon. (It looks like the Aquasaurs are from the Ant Farm people.)

I'll probably get the Triops kit and buy my own spooky-assed decorations from a pet store. I don't need a $12 landscape, really, though probably it'll end up coming to that when I'm done...

One of the triops pages I was looking at was warning against adding any foreign objects to the water. (They might have been telling the truth or they might have been trying to convince me to buy their special brand of tank decorations.)

Here's the page: http://www.discoverthis.com/tr.html

Those are excellent. And their life span is just about the amount of time it takes me to grow disenchanted with a pet. Nice.
