Another neighborly update

Halloween 2008- Captain Hammer
Well, tonight I got my first call from my downstairs neighbor. It was a lot less obnoxious than the pounding on the ceiling or the knocking on the door.

I got home a little before 11pm, put some things away in my bedroom, then stayed out as requested by my neighbor. At around 12:45am I started getting ready for bed and brushing my teeth, etc. As part of that I walked from the living room to the bathroom and back a couple of times. I sat down on the couch at about 12:55am and the phone rang. I thought it might be monstersocks but she should have been asleep. The caller id came up "Robert Palombo". Bob was sure that I'd been in and out of the bedroom a couple of times. It took a little convincing, but I finally got him to understand that I actually hadn't been in the bedroom. He's going to try closing his bedroom door to see if that helps.

I feel a little bad if I wake him up walking around in the bedroom late at night, but I don't really feel bad if he wakes up when I'm walking to and from the bathroom.

I wonder if the two of you would likely end up switching apartments. What a hassle.

Even if I were willing to try something like that, I don't think it would help. I know that I've heard my upstairs neighbors walking around at what Bob would consider "too late at night".
I think this is going to continue to be a problem until one of us moves or Bob learns how to cope with living in an apartment building with neighbors who don't keep exactly the same schedule you do.

I hate moving and there would be a lot of pain and suffering involved in moving my stuff down to that apartment. I also wouldn't really be interested in living in a first floor apartment due to security concerns.

If I were smarter I'd just buy a damn house.

that would be a fairly lousy solution. Perhaps you should take up tapdancing instead. Really I think he ought to just buy a white-noisemaker.

I'm assuming he's tried earplugs?

I suggested them but he didn't think he'd be able to sleep with them in. If he contacts me again I'll probably suggest them again.

I've actually been intentionally brushing my teeth a while before I go to bed because I figured something like this would happen. The two times he banged on the ceiling he thought I'd been in and out of the bedroom for a while, when in fact I'd just entered after brushing my teeth, etc. Last night I was able to confirm for myself that he's so sensitive he even wakes up when I stay out of the bedroom.

I think at this point, he needs earplugs forced upon him. He's the one with the problem, but you're the one who's had to change your behavior. Time for him to start.

I agree, this is his problem, not yours. He's the one who should be smart and move somewhere without neighbors if they bother him.

Yep. We'll see if my bathroom usage continues to be a problem for him.
If he starts hassling me again in inappropriate ways I'll report him.
If he keeps complaining about my walking in other parts of the apartment I might be forced to just give up and use my entire apartment whenever I want again.
