Halloween 2008- Captain Hammer
from alisgray:

The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really we know nothing about each other.

I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about.

Ask away. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.

What do you do for work?

It's a small company so I've had a number of roles over the years.

Right now I'm basically a DBA. I design and implement our SQL Server databases and write stored procedures for our internal systems and our website. I also support some now fairly old in-house applications written in 4D. I'm also our main Mac support guy for the few Apple computers left in the building (we were a Mac shop when I started but converted after being purchased by another company). Let's see, I also teach coworkers about SQL and provide interface design advice for our website (which is on rare occasion listened to). In the past I've also modified a small OS/2 application written in C and written CallXPress code for our voicemail system.

what is (or isn't) your religious affiliation, and how did that come to be?

I guess if I had to pick one I'd go with atheist.

I was raised disorganized christian and attended a private quaker school for fifteen years. I don't know where exactly it comes from but I can't remember ever thinking of religion as anything other than mythology. I think there's probably also some influence from George Carlin and other music/books/etc.

What gadget have you most regretted buying?
10th-Nov-2004 12:45 pm (UTC) - Tough Question
Hmmmmm. I've occasionally regretted buying my G3. I don't bring it with me too often because of its size and it has way more features than I normally use, but I have gotten pictures with it that I wouldn't have gotten with a less fancy camera. I also regret buying the memory card reader that corrupted monstersocks' memory card destroying a whole set of pictures.

I think my biggest regret is my 15" PowerBook G4. The large screen is great but I don't take it with me nearly as much as I did my old 12" iBook. I should have spent the money on a new Dual G5 tower to replace my aging G4 Cube and then later bought another iBook as a portable. (My G4 Cube is very cool and I love having a completely quiet computer but a 450MHz G4 is quite a bit slower than two 2.0GHz G5s would be.)
