Bitter

Went out with monstersocks to Udupi last night. Better than last time but still not particularly exciting. A couple parts of the Assorted Appetizer were okay, the rest were pretty eh. The main dish I had was Malai Kofta, cheese in a tomato, cream and onion sauce. It was spicy but not very flavorful. I also had Onion Paratha (I love India Palace's onion naan) and didn't like it much. Paratha (at least Udupi's Paratha) is much denser than India Palace's naan and it didn't taste much like onion (but there were plenty of onions in it). I tried some of monstersocks' Dosai. The bits with plenty of filling were pretty good but I don't like the dosai in general. I think they taste like crepes made by someone who doesn't really understand what crepes are supposed to taste like.

So, second time was better than the first but still not much to make me excited to go back again soon. (I do like their website though, with the pictures of many of the dishes on the online menu). Next time I might get the Paneer Pakora, and either the Coconut Rice or the Makhni Kofta.

Bah, I just thought I recognized someone on CSI (weeks old, we're catching up from the time when monstersocks was busy packing) and I thought it looked kind of like Didi Conn but it was actually Nana Visitor. At least I'm not the only one. (Benson, Deep Space Nine, same thing.) On a slightly related note, I wonder if Netflix has Shooting Vegetarians.)

Anyway, we went to Udupi for dinner because we were in the neighborhood for one of the celebrations of komatoast and ladyslaughter's birthdays. We got to Nicklow's a little before eriker and her gang. Neither of us participated in the karaoke (I've done it twice but I'm not much of a singer) but we had a good time. I also corrected a minor misconception on gidon's part.

Came home and finished up fixing monstersocks' iBook (weird Finder behavior where the menu bar wouldn't display correctly, temporarily fixed by purging shared caches and preferences but eventually fixed with a reinstallation of OS X). I was confused for a while after the reinstall because I tried to join the wireless network so I could download updates but it kept rejecting the password. I finally realized that it was because I'd installed 10.3.0 which didn't support WPA. (So I needed the updates before I could download the updates.) One of monstersocks' installation disks was messed up so I had to get a set from elsewhere (still only a fraction of my stuff at the new place).
