Yesterday, Sotheby's in New York mounted an exhibit of Royal Copenhagen's Hippopotamus Service, calling it "the single most important commissioned service of the last 100 years."

PS- There is also the website of the woman what took the pictures and Hippolotofus - The International Hippo Society . monstersocks did not agree with some of the ways to say Hippo in other languages.

I visited that factory, which was cool, but damn those are expensive. Their stock line costs more than any other dishware I've ever seen, and I can't even imagine what a whole custom service runs. (I just skimmed the article to see if they listed the cost. Holy crap.)

I want the hippo dishes! "eight different hippopotomi in natural settings"? Bring it on! (I wonder if they would match our new gold service)
